Moving Out

Dan and Kev moving Kev's big desk.

Last week we finally moved out of our one bedroom apartment in East Duluth and into our no bedroom camper! We could not have moved out of the apartment without the help of Dan, Matt and Pam. Dan came over last Tuesday and helped Kevin move our big pieces of furniture down three flights of steps to their trucks and then off to the storage unit. On move out day Matt did several truckloads with Kevin and Pam came to my rescue by helping me clean and taking our electronics to storage.
Our storage unit is VERY full!

See ya kitchen!

Living room, which had an awesome view of lake.

Here is our new temporary home! It's a 14 ft Sportsmen Classic travel trailer. Before getting the camper, Kevin and I tried to extend our lease but that was a no go and we also looked for subleases around town but did not really find anything. I suggested getting a cover for Kev's truck and put an air mattress back there but that idea ended up getting shot down. I still think it would have worked :). We ended up getting the travel trailer, so this way we can sell it next spring for as much as we paid for it. If we had done a sublease, then we would have been throwing out money each month instead of investing it into the house. I think this was the smartest move we could have made.

It took many, many hours on craigslist and other RV websites to find our camper. We also looked at campers several hours south and west of us and in Wisconsin.

After living in it since last Wednesday, we are still happy with it. It's a good size for two people and it has everything we wanted - a microwave, stove (no oven), fridge, furnace (which we may need in a month), full bathroom, a lot of storage and an A/C.

We are currently learning the limitations of the travel trailer; such as, we can only take a total of four showers until we need to dump the grey water tank. Another is there are only two outlets for recharging devices, so it can be interesting charging two phones, two tablets and a kindle especially if we want to use them by the dinette area.

I am happy we have a bed and bathroom that we can use while we our working on our certificate of occupancy. The next couple of weeks will be filled with washing and painting walls and wiring.
The left door is a closet and the right one with the mirror leads to the bathroom.
I don't think I could get a camper with a smaller bathroom than this.

The table folds down and the area converts into an almost queen size bed with the cushions. We have just left the bed down and stored our clothes bags under it.

  1. Feel yer pain. After years of motor homes (2), Travel trailers(2) and pop ups (2) we learned that no matter how large the RV, it is only meant for 2 people. However the only thing we had smaller than yours was a pop up. We took Meg and Lauren on a trip to Glacier Natl Park in Wy. It also had a shower and toilet, but alas, no execution chamber
