Initial Impressions of the House

We initially took a look at the house April 30th to see what kind of shape it was in and to see if it was even worth pursuing. We looked at the house with Kevin's boss, Dale, and his coworker, Matt. Matt's first statement after seeing it kind of summed up the outside of the house, "Oh look, it is already decorated for Halloween."

But as we looked at the property we saw that it had huge potential. The downstairs has beautiful wood work, fire place and neat archways, and the upstairs has a view of the harbor, a little deck and a laundry shoot. You just have to get pass all the dirt, dust, grim, smashed walls, basement, vandalism and trash.

Living room as you enter the front door. The steps are to your right, next to that is the walkway to the kitchen and basement and to the far left archway is the dinning room.
LOVE the arches!!! Check out the wood railing and the wood telephone shelf (?) to the left. Pretty neat!

I really like the fireplace. Too bad the sconces were ripped out.

This is the dining room. Look at the beautiful artwork on the floor!! I wonder if we will keep it?

The kitchen will be an interesting project because of how small it is and with the two windows that would over lap with standard cabinets.
The second window in the kitchen is hidden by the propped door on the left.
There is also a large pantry attached to the kitchen, maybe one day it will be a half bath?
The upstairs contains three bedrooms, one bath and a linen closet with attic access.
The khaki room, which will probably be the guest room.

Purple room - potential computer room.

Pink room - master bedroom. Ignore all the mold and peeling paint; we'll fix that eventually.
The only true bathroom in the house. It may also need a lot of TLC.

Original hexagon tile

Upstairs linen closet - which isn't really leaning :)

  1. Wow! I guess the first step is to sweep the floor.
Wish I were there to help.

  3. Keep the tree mural! Best part of the whole house! Except for the wooden telephone shelf thingy.

    1. The mural was definitely a surprise. I'm not sure if the two iguanas should have been included.

  4. I like the tree mural too honestly! And that stair banister is awesome. I don't know what to do, but if you tell me I'll work at it! Let me know when a good day to come over and help would be!

    1. Thanks Rachel! You're awesome :) We are pretty much at the house after work and all day on the weekends, so if you're free and want to check it out call/text me. We won't turn away free labor!
